The GDPR (DSGVO or DS-GVO; French Règlement général sur la protection des données RGPD, English General Data Protection Regulation GDPR) is a European Union regulation that harmonises the rules governing the processing of personal data by most data processors, both private and public, throughout the EU.

This is intended to ensure on the one hand the protection of personal data within the European Union and on the other hand to guarantee the free movement of data within the European internal market.

The regulation “GDPR or DSGVO (European Data Protection Law)” replaces Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, which dates back to 1995.

Together with the so-called JHA Directive for data protection in the police and judicial sectors[1], the DSGVO has formed the common data protection framework in the European Union since 25 May 2018. [2]

And in the last few years we have published many articles on this subject. After a transitional period, the EU also imposed sometimes drastic penalties on companies that did not comply with the regulations.

Internationally, this law is abbreviated to GDPR. GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation.

The aim of the DSGVO is the protection of personal data.

This is an initiative of the portal group named GAFA. Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple. All of these companies called Datenkraken worldwide are suspected of having collected personal data without permission. They analyse this data for their own purposes and for advertising on their portals. And the EU wanted to regulate this partly unauthorised use with the DSGVO.
